Yatton Ath 1-5 Dons

The Dons got off to a flying start with Hillier and Piscina causing all sorts of problems for the Yatton defence and the 5 man midfield looked to stifle the play in the middle of the park just as they did last week. Mike Piscina was beginning to show the class that bought him 40 plus goals last season, hassling defenders, chasing down balls and holding up well to bring in to play the colossus 5 man midfield and was rewarded after 10 minutes, great approach play from Chris ------- found Hillier wide left who dinked a delightful ball through to Pig who thundered a fine strike over the goal keepers head, 1-0.

Wave after wave of Dons attacks put untold pressure on the Yatton back four, unable to break out of their own half it was only a matter of time before the Dons struck again. A defensive mix up saw that man Piscina steal in and fire home from a yard out and make it 2-0 after just 15 minutes. Credit where credit is due, Piscina takes a rocky balboa type cut to above the eye and still battles on to make it 3-0 after just twenty minutes with the pick of the bunch, a smart darting run took him away from his marker and latch on to a Chris ----- through ball to round off his hat-trick with a stinging finish into the bottom corner. The Dons rode out some late first half pressure with Captain Chivers leading his defensive charges superbly to ensure they went into the break on top.

Second half saw much of the same, the Dons playing their trade mark slick passing football that sprung more leaks in the Yatton defence than a welsh allotment. Superb wing work from Mike Jefferys and Chris Hillier gave the Dons a natural width and the midfield trio of Mike Fursdon, Chris ----- and Paul Sell broke the play up well and got on to support Piscina at every opportunity.

A moment of brilliance saw the Dons go 4 up with Mike Piscina turning the defenders inside out before pulling off a showboating “round the back of the legs” pass to put Mike Fursdon through and with just the keeper to beat, he slotted home coolly to round off a fantastic move.

Coasting now the Dons took the foot off the gas and allowed the Yatton team back into the game, it was a testament to the battling attitude of a spirited Yatton side full of spirit that kept them driving at the Dons defence and had it not been for a string of fine saves from Daniel Owen the score could have been slightly less flattering.

However quality prevails and despite the lack lustre 10 minutes the Dons snatched a sneaky 5th with Paul Sell marauding forward from his holding midfield roll to launch a rasping low shot past the despairing keeper. Yatton pulled a very late consolation goal back which denied the Dons only their second ever back to back clean sheets but in all fairness was only what Yatton deserved.
